Does sports massage hurt?
Sports massage is a deep tissue massage so several people will experience some discomfort at some point during the treatment. Your therapist will be in constant communication with you to ensure we keep within your personal comfort zone.
Can I have a sports massage if I don’t play sport?
Yes. Sports massage is for everyone, although some techniques many not be necessary. We have many clients who work in offices that we treat for back, neck and shoulder pain caused by poor posture and sitting for long periods of time.
How does sports massage work?
Sports massage works deep into the specific affected muscles and through a range of specialised techniques helps the muscles to reclaim their normal elasticity. It stretches muscle fibres, releasing tension and adhesions in the fascia which can cause restricted movement and pain.
Are there any side effects?
After a Sports massage treatment it is common to experience sore and tired muscles. This can last up to 48 hrs depending on the current state of your muscles. This recovery time often is reduced with regular massage sessions.
Although not as common another side effect can be mild bruising which some people are more susceptible to than others. These side effects are nothing to worry about and are completely normal. But please talk to your massage therapist if you have any concerns.
What’s the difference between a deep tissue and sports massage?
Sports massages and deep tissue massages are both excellent ways to help active people recover from injuries and help promote overall health. The two offer a slight difference. Sports massages targets specific areas related to the individuals sport or activity, while deep tissue massages works deeply into all muscles.
How does deep tissue massage work?
When there is chronic muscle tension or injury, there are usually adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) in muscles, tendons, and ligaments. Adhesions can block circulation and cause pain, limited movement, and inflammation. Deep tissue massage works by physically breaking down these adhesions to relieve pain and restore normal movement.

The treatment involves the therapist directly massaging your skin, nourishing oil or cream-based product will generally be used to provide a free-flowing massage, and towels carefully placed to ensure your modesty and keep you warm and comfortable throughout the treatment. Whatever type of massage you are having, your therapist will advise you of what to expect before the treatment begins.
How often should I have a Swedish massage?
This very much depends on your lifestyle and the current condition of your body and current state of mind. We will be able to give professional advice and help guide you in the right direction.
Does Swedish massage hurt?
No. Swedish massage applies much less pressure on the body than deep tissue massages, so it should feel calm and relaxing with no pain.
We can tailor your massage to suit you, as some people like a little more pressure or would like a blend of deep tissue and Swedish massage included in their session.
